A Brief about the Products by IFFCO

Established in the year 1967, IFFCO began operations with about 56 cooperatives. Under the able leadership of its managerial staff, especially Dr US Awasthi, the CEO and MD of IFFCO, the organisation has grown by leaps and bounds and today has more than 36000 cooperatives as its members. IFFCO, with an aim to offer their services for the betterment of Indian farmers, offers a number of products. Here is a brief introduction to some of the more popular products by IFFCO:

Primary Nutrients
· Urea
The most important nitrogenous fertiliser in the country, Urea has high N content (about 46%).
Besides being used in farming, it is also used as cattle feed supplement. It works great in replacing a part of the cattle’s protein requirements. Urea also has several industrial uses, like being used in the production of plastics.
· NPK
NPK complex fertilisers are produced by IFFCO at Kandla and are DAP based grades. While in granular form the NPK complexes do not pose problems during handling or storage, exposure to high humidity can lead to caking.
· NP
IFFCO also produces NP (Grade 20:20:0:13). This is an ammonium phosphate sulphate fertiliser that provides nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulphur to the crops.
· DAP
DAP by IFFCO is a source of crucial nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus, and is an integral part of nurturing the earth. This fertiliser is suitable to be used with all kinds of crops.

Water soluble fertilisers
As the name suggests, this is a product that is readily soluble in water. It releases essential plant nutrients at the root zone. From there, the nutrients are absorbed by the plant. This method of fertiliser application is referred to as fertigation, where the fertiliser is incorporated within the irrigation water via the drip system.

Bio fertilisers
These are good sources that can be used to enhance the availability of nutrients in the soil and plants. Bio fertilisers are low cost, effective, and environmental friendly sources of nutrients that supplement fertilisers.

While these are the main product offerings by IFFCO, there are other products available as well. IFFCO also provides secondary and macronutrients, like Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate, and plant growth promoters, like Sakarika.
