3 Initiatives by IFFCO that are Drawing Applause from the Society

IFFCO, India’s largest fertiliser cooperative is known for the good work it has been doing for Indian farmers. IFFCO’s initiatives, led by its MD U.S.Awasthi, have been in news for the right reasons.

Here is a look at such three initiatives that have been successful.

NEEM Planting
IFFCO’s Neem plantation campaign has proven to be successful, and has already crossed the million mark. Upon hearing the news, U.S. Awasthi congratulated one and all on social media for the contribution. The target of planting one milling neem saplings was achieved in less than a year. The campaign began on a modest scale, but soon caught fancy of political leaders as they chipped in with contribution coming from their area.

IFFCO to buy Nimboli directly from farmers
IFFCO announced its decision to buy Nimboli directly from the farmers. The nimboli will be used to produce the neem coated urea, which IFFCO has started producing in order to boost the productivity of soil. The neem coating ensures gradual release of urea, which help plants gain more nutrients, thus leading to higher yields.

“We are constantly looking at ways of increasing livelihood of our farmers. Buying Nimboli is a unique experiment in the country, where IFFCO wants to encourage farmers not only to sell Nimboli to us, but also grow more Neem trees. Neem has a lot of other health benefits too, and we want our brothers and sisters in villages to gain from growing a Neem in their backyard” said IFFCO MD U S Awasthi to the news reporters and other attendees present during the announcement.

IFFCO to encourage production of Honey
IFFCO has decided to encourage the production of honey among the farmers to supplement their income. This is being done in line with various programs set up to promote the Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji’s vision of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022.
To encourage the farmers, IFFCO celebrated the World Honey Bee Day on 20th May, which was the first such day to spread awareness about honey bee and bee keeping. The event was attended by over 200 farmers. The show was organized by IFFCO and its subsidiary IFFDC at FMDI Auditorium in Gurugram.

All the three programs by IFFCO has drawn appreciation from different quarters, with the company being lauded for working for the betterment of the Indian farmers, which in turn will benefit the agricultural sector on the whole.
